Whether you’re visiting solo, as a couple, or gathering family under one roof, this stunning home is comfortable and restorative.

An Intimate Lakefront Setting on Sunset Lake

One of the most special aspects of this Vermont lake house rental is its location.

The home sits directly on Sunset Lake in Hinesburg, a quiet, resident-only lake where motorized boats aren’t allowed. That means calm water (or ice), peaceful mornings, and uninterrupted sunset views.

Guests have access to kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards in the summer, all launched directly from the private dock. While the lake isn’t ideal for swimming due to its muddy bottom, there’s a town beach just six minutes away by car.

When the lake is frozen over, as it was during my visit, it’s an open playground for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

The interior is warm, bright, and welcoming. The kitchen is a standout, with plenty of space for cooking simple meals or going all-in on something more elaborate. There’s a French press for coffee and a central island that works just as well for working remotely as it does for casual meals.

Two upstairs bedrooms and one downstairs are ideal for a range of sleeping configurations. One of the rooms has been created especially for kids, with two twin beds, lots of books and games, and a closet turned into a secret reading nook.

I visited solo, and the space felt perfect for quiet mornings, journaling, yoga, and long stretches of uninterrupted time. That said, this place would also work beautifully for family gatherings, including the family pooch.

The Deck, Fire Pit, and Lakeside Barrel Sauna

Outside is where this Vermont lake house rental really shines. The large back deck overlooks the lake, and the sloping backyard leads down to a fire pit and a barrel sauna right at the water’s edge.

In winter, the contrast of heat and cold feels especially magical. Sitting in the sauna as the sun dips behind the trees is an experience in itself.

One evening, I sat alone in the barrel sauna as the light faded over the lake. The air was sharp, and the only movement came from the swaying of the trees overhead. I stayed longer than planned, watching the sky darken, feeling completely unhurried for the first time in a long while.

In warmer months, the deck and yard offer endless opportunities for lounging, reading, and soaking up the scenery.

Winter at This Vermont Lake House Rental

I visited in winter, and it couldn’t have been more peaceful. Snowshoeing around the lake was a highlight, and the quiet season made the entire stay feel deeply restorative and unhurried.

If you’re visiting in winter, it’s important to know that the house is accessed by a well-maintained private dirt road. AWD and snow tires are essential, and being comfortable driving in winter conditions is equally important.

The driveway and road are plowed, but snow-packed surfaces are common during colder months. I visited after one of Vermont’s biggest snowstorms in years, and yes, the roads were snow-covered and icy.

While this beautiful Vermont lake house rental is perfect for a staycation, it’s also centrally located for exploring more of Vermont.

Hinesburg itself has several restaurants, a small grocery store, and one of my favorite local breweries, Frost Beer Works. They’re best known for their IPAs, but in winter, I always gravitate toward their brown ale.

For hiking, the nearby Five Tree Hill Trail is a fantastic option. It’s an easy 2.2-mile out-and-back trail that leads to a scenic overlook with views of Lake Champlain and Brownell Mountain, along with a bench at the summit that’s perfect for a quiet pause.

If you want to venture farther, the house is under 30 minutes from Burlington and Shelburne, and about 45 minutes from Stowe.
