Celebrate the warmth and celebratory vibes of Mardi Gras a little early with a weekend of lively music in Montpelier.

After a five-year hiatus, the Spice on Snow Winter Music Festival is back!

For three unforgettable days—January 17th to 19th, 2025—the streets of Montpelier will hum with the sounds of Cajun and old-time music played by nationally acclaimed artists.

Whether you’re itching to dance, learn, or soak in the music, there’s something for everyone at Spice on Snow.

Expect toe-tapping concerts, lively dances, workshops, family events, jam sessions, and free performances all over town.

Presented by Montpelier Alive and the Summit School of Traditional Music & Culture, here’s a taste of what’s coming your way.

Friday, January 17th

Kickoff Party with Rose and the Bros

Get ready to move—Rose & The Bros are here to light up the dance floor with their infectious energy and one-of-a-kind sound!

This powerhouse ensemble is deeply rooted in southern dance tradition, blending crooning vocal harmonies with a rich country music influence.

At their core lies a rhythmic pulse inspired by the vibrant Louisiana sound, spiced up with hints of reggae and melodic drum tones.

Their mission? To stay true to their unique musical voice while delivering tempos and grooves that keep dancers on their feet all night long.

This lively band from Ithaca gathers momentum with every show, building a warm, devoted following fueled by their infectious joy, love of community, and pure, rollicking fun.

So, lace up your dancing shoes and get ready—Rose & The Bros are bringing the party with them!

Saturday, January 18th

Richie Stearns and Rosie Newton met at Saratoga Springs’ Flurry Festival, reunited in Ithaca’s old-time music scene, and quickly became an unstoppable duo.

Both artists bring rich histories: Richie, a veteran of international stages with legends like Bela Fleck and Pete Seeger, and Rosie, who’s toured with folk-rock bands since high school. Together, they’re redefining traditional music with heartfelt storytelling and masterful performances.

Richie & Rosie prove the magic of two people creating timeless music—a connection that resonates across generations. This dynamic duo brings the Americana tradition to life in a show you won’t want to miss.

  • Dive into Cajun and old-time music workshops: fiddle, banjo, double Cajun fiddle, Zydeco rhythms, and more at Monteverdi Music School.
  • Enjoy acoustic performances by local musicians around town—family-friendly and free (or by donation).
  • Cap off your Saturday night with late-night Cajun music from Pointe Noir at Bent Nails Bistro from 8 – 11 pm (donations accepted at the door).

Sunday, January 19th

Sunday Morning Community Sing-Along
Join Heidi Wilson for a soulful start to your day at Monteverdi Music School.
Time: 10 am – 12 pm in Room 207

MLK Jr. Commemorative Concert
Wrap up the festival with a powerful tribute featuring the Montpelier Community Gospel Project, Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, and Shidaa Projects.
