Welcome to southern Vermont

The following hikes, rambles, and walks are perfect for novice hikers or families with children. Most are under five miles with lovely scenery.

Lye Brook Falls

Located in Manchester, Vermont. these falls require a moderate, round-trip hike of 4.6 miles.

Hamilton falls

The hike to Hamilton Falls is about 6 miles round-trip. The trail can be accessed from Jamaica State Park.

Lake Shaftsbury

The hike around Lake Shaftsbury is more of a ramble — a mile in length, meandering through the woods and around a small lake.

Mile around woods

Located in North Bennington, this trail network is dog-friendly and features gorgeous views of the surrounding farms and mountains. Trail length varies.

Emerald Lake state Park

There are several hiking trails in Emerald Lake State Park. Check out the Vista Trail, which is a steady climb with awesome views of the lake, or the lake trail which takes along the water.

Mt. Olga

Climb the fire tower on the top of Mt. Olga in Wilmington for awesome 360-degree views. This climb is only 1.8 miles round trip. 

mt. Ascutney

Drive to the top of Mt. Ascutney and then hike the summit trails and up to the fire tower. This is a 2-mile loop. You can also hike to the top, which is much longer.
